  • 1.  Job Cost monthly overhead allocation. End user do

Job Cost monthly overhead allocation. End user doesn't close the books until the second week of the following month. By that time there are two weeks of additional costs in job cost, so the overhead allocation for the month is never correct. Id there any way to run the overhead allocation register with a cutoff date, or another work around to get the correct cutoff?

Doug you are too funny.......... Maybe write a crystal report to pull transactions by date out of history, calc the OH and then do a JE.......

A Crystal report is a good idea. It will take more than a JE though. The overhead allocation calculates and updates the overhead to the job by cost code and cost type. There would also need to be a VI import to JC Entry. It may be worth the effort. I am sure I have asked this question in the past and it is always the same story. This has to be a huge PITA to companies that use job cost and calculate overhead using the JC module. If they aren't auto calculating overhead it is probably because of (huge) issues like this.

Lots of things could be improved with JC which could be used to actually market the product.

Many companies need job costing, not just job shops. Many companies in many different industries have projects they want to track costs for. Sage looks to see what the current revenue is for a module as an indicator as to whether they should invest in it. What a bad strategy. Instead, they should look at the market potential. Consumers don't want to make a long term commitment to a POS (and POS doesn't mean ""point of sale"".) product. Oh well, maybe 2018...??

For monthly overhead is overhead calculated on the transactions or on the period to date summary costs by cost code? Seems like a Master Developer could figure out how to apply a filter to the calculation. Have you looked into that?

I haven't looked into master developer modifications. That would be a last resort. I like the idea of running a Crystal report to calculate the overhead by date range and then using vi to import to JC data entry.
