Is your data in ""the cloud"" safe?

This is a good point. There's also the issue of if your data isn't at risk for deletion/remove - it most certainly seems like it's a lot easier to subpoena or for the government to access without your knowledge. How far away are we from the first silent subpoena/audit where IRS is reviewing online data without notice to a company?

It's probably happened already, since DOJ has already claimed that anything stored in the cloud can be theirs without a warrant. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/01/department-justice-misdirection-cloud-computing-and-privacy

@PhilMcIntosh is right - this should be a concern to people. Not necessarily because any of us have something to hide but because it's none of the government's g-ddamn business. People look at China with pity and talk about how locked down they are but the USA isn't too far off these days. And while everyone was protesting SOPA and PIPA, did anyone realize that an even more oppressive international treaty was signed by our president? Our digital rights are a wet piece of tissue paper.
