Is there a way to set a hard limit for payroll benefit accruals? There is a carryover allowance, however an employee can accrue more than this number. As always, ""QuickBooks can do this"".

Unless I'm misunderstanding your question, yes, you can accrue more than the carryover allowance but you can only carry over that allowance. For example, an employee accrues two weeks vacation but only uses three days. If the carryover allowance is one week, that employee loses two days but can still carryover one week.

@Therese - The issue is the client does not want their employees to ever go over a hard limit. If the Carryover for an employee is 40 hours, and employee has 40 at the start of a new year and accrues 2 hours a week, their available will climb each week 42,44,46, etc. It won't go back to 40 until year end. We want them to get no new accrual until they use some of the balance.

What does your set up options look like. There is a flag to base benefit availability limit. I know there is a limit because I had a client with employees bumping into the limit and they would stop accruing. I even sent a not to Sage explaining their formula should be tweaked. It would shut people down who were actually taking vacation and in theory should have accrued some benefits. Long story, but never got a response back from Sage.

@Jeff - my understanding of ""Base Benefit Availability On"" set to ""Limit"" is that if there is an annual limit of 40 hours, all 40 are available at the start of the year. If set to ""Accrual"" then only the hours accrued are available. This is not what we need.

Perhaps. All I know the client limit was 200 hours and the system stopped accruing when they hit the 200 hour limit.

Jon, I realize this is an old post, but it appears that an answer was never posted. The hard limit is set in PR Options - Additional Tab - Hours to Use for Benefit Limit. Options are Accrued, Accrued + Carry Over, Accrued + CarryOver-Used. It's probably not an issue for you any more. Maybe it will help someone in future searches.
