Is there a way to ""register"" an app or PC so that starting MAS with UAC turned on won't display the security warning? I shouldn't have to disable UAC just to run MAS.

This may be outdated but is it similar to what you're experiencing? http://www.s-consult.com/support/activekb/questions.php?questionid=32

This came up when Vista came out. Haven't tried it but heard you can elevate the privilege level via Task Scheduler, ergo on your desktop have a shortcut that runs a Task Scheduler job that starts up MAS and won't display any UAC related warnings - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/135472-faq-what-is-the-uac-part2/

Thanks Alnoor. The weird thing is that MAS does NOT dispay the warning on my laptop for locally installed apps. It appears to only do this for network apps. I thought I read somewhere that security can be updated to trust a domain. I'm hoping to find this setting and update it.

Did you add it to the security in IE as a trusted location?

That might be it! But I think you would add the MAS UNC path to the Local Intranet zone instead of Trusted Sites. But try it both way see what happens.

adding it to the Local Intranet zone is what worked for me. Thanks for the solution to a very nagging problem. Now we don't have to turn the UAC off...............

Asked client to do this, but they said it didn't work. Did not have a chance to verify if they did it correctly, but will check today.

Adding just the UNC path did not work. But you get an error message showing examples of paths that do work and some that don't. Note that I added ""file:"" to the beginning of the UNC. It may take a couple tries to get it right, but it does work.

Thanks Jeff. I reviewed my e-mail to client and asked them to enter File://servername as path. Must verify, as who knows what they actually entered.

    Mark, did this get resolved?

Sorry for the delay, I have not been back to this client in several weeks. They haven't complained about it since, so the suggestion must have worked.

Bring this one back up. MAS working great on client's network until last week. Not generating the message on startup. I've tried adding it to the local internet zone as I did above, but now it isn't working. Will continue trying this solution. Has anyone discovered new tricks?

I had to resolve this via the following (thanks, @JohnKerr!!). The Sage KB article i had pulled up didn't resolve it, i.e., the local intranet zone step or 'run as administrator'. 110-504818 - ""Open file security warning"" Entry Type: Informational Product: Sage MAS 90 ERP, Sage MAS 200 ERP Version Reported: 4.05 Subject: ""Open file security warning"" Possible Resolution: Modify the Windows group policy to allow access: Note: Sage Customer Support is not responsible for assisting with security issues and takes no responsibility for changes made to your security or for errors in these instructions. Consult your network administrator before making changes. Click Windows Start. Click Run. Type gpedit.msc and press ENTER. Expand Local Computer Policy, User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, and Attachment Manager. Right-click Default risk level for file attachments. Click Properties. Click Enabled. Right-click Inclusion list for low file types. Click Properties. Click Enabled. In the Specify low risk inclusions field, type pvxwin32.exe. Click OK.
