is there a way to manage the format when choosing

is there a way to manage the format when choosing Email/Export from the drop down menu when printing documents?. Client is exporting a Crystal from to Excel using that process and, of course, blank lines and lots of junk column titles etc. are exporting. Not pretty. Appreciate any suggestions. I know I can clear all the formatting on the form, but they also print it for use. It's just the Excel export that is looking really sad.

under crystal, File, Report export options - select the format and you can save the options with the report

Didn't change the result Eric. The sections where ""lines"" for the form come across as blank spaces. Detail layout has elements of detail on two line instead of one as it is on the report. It's a puzzle.

I create another report ""export"" and modify the ""export"" so that it dumps cleanly into excel. When they want to print it they use the standard report.

Has been the only answer for some time. A big thumbs up for the ability to do this in v4.x

Another option (depending upon circumstances) is to define a parameter field that asks whether the report is exported (default to NO). Then add suppression formulas to areas that shouldn't export. Probably best used on reports though.

When you export @DebThomas set the ""Column Widths Based On"" to ""detail"" rather than the default of ""whole report"". You may also want to check on the option for show gridlines. Setting the output of colunns to details will help quite a bit with those ugly breaks but if it's not enough you may need to setup an export excel friendly version of the form.

And choosing fixed column sizes helps sometimes, too. I start with 50.

And make sure your fields touch each other - that eliminates the extra column you will get when you export to Excel. I also make sure my column headings are the exact size of the detail under it.

Friends, I've made all those notes on the form, so it does look like another report is required. Rats...

Exporting a Crystal report to Excel truly plucks the nerves. Here is a PDF I pulled from SAP a few years back on the topic. Hope it helps....

I've seen that one too @JeffSchwenk and I've learned to use guidelines, eliminate extra spaces, etc. In fact, I just formatted a report like this yesterday!

In my experience - always use ""Data Only"" when exporting to excel. Otherwise jumbled data.

Actually, Data only gives you jumbled data also, but less of it!!!! If this is a repetitive report request, it is optimal to create a export only report following the PDF guidelines....
