Is there a way to find out what a ""GroupField"" is pointing to in Crystal reports? I am being asked to override a GroupField on a picking sheet with the item code so the report sorts alphabetically rather than by line of whatever sorting is defaulted on their already customized form. I have tested on my system, and it doesn't seem to cause any issues... but I feel like there should be a way to know what that group field is?

Thanks @DougHiggs , but you see on the third group down how it says GroupField. I am wondering what data it is grouping by? By changing the group field to item code, I am just wondering what I am replacing to avoid possible pitfalls in the future.

Isn't it a setup option to be able to sort by item number?

The Group field is based on options. When I try and overwrite it, I simply delete the group and choose however the customer wants it to be grouped.

I'm not sure what the consequences of changing a group, but, do not delete any groups. If you delete the item group or you may have a mess.

Backup and test it printing a range of orders. I have seen deleting a group work for one order at a time and then screw up on a range of orders.

Of course, make a backup of the form but what else is there to lose?

Never delete the group by order/invoice number, however!

Way to point out the obvious @MaryJoKrueger indeed there is! I guess I will scrap that project :)

Okay, now that I've read your post again @MichelleNichols, I agree @MaryJoKrueger has the answer. But in general, when trying to change the grouping of standard forms/reports, it is sometimes easier to delete the group and set it yourself. Just sayin'... Not in this case, of course....

And possibly (maybe just maybe) a little more reliable that whatever Sage has in place as well @ThereseLogeais !

@MichelleNichols I will add that formula field to the group header or footer area and run the report. That will show what data is in the group by field at that point in the report.
