Is there a specific reason that Sage could not have made the 941 report a self-install? Why should the customer have to manually go through and rename RPT files?

So long as Sage keeps providing links that do not require login I am accumulating them: http://reddit.com/r/mas90 And the 941 2012 is available: http://goo.gl/m8an3 Bookmarking this link is a good idea since it provides links to all sorts of other needed things like product updates, tax tables, etc http://goo.gl/mhQfo

I agree with @BrettLyder - The way the system is set up, the reports get copied over to the ###-XXX folders. To make it completely self install without further user intervention, logic has to be inserted to look in EVERY subfolder and delete existing reports from the prior year or change the logic in PR to ask if you want to replace the existing subfolder reports with the 2012 version. I would surmise that neither scenarios are easy projects for Sage especially given that is PR that we are talking about. If they have that much unused programming talent just wasting away, I can think of 100 things (without taxing my feeble brain) that they can do to add value to the existing product that I would prioritize higher than this.

If Sage cannot figure out how to look into xxx-ccc and rename an existing report and drop in a new one then they should just keep looking to charge their partners more money for being partners. Wait, that's exactly what they are doing ... never mind...

I had a customer where I did the 941 update for 2012. Found I had to manually copy 941a and 941p from \reports to \reports \###-###. I think it's supposed to self populate but I could be wrong. Anyhow this seemed to fix a problem where the system would error out claiming it can't find ###-ccc/941a.rpt or 941p.rpt on a production company after I'd followed the instructions. FYI

We have also had a couple that required a manual copy. Most have provided the usual message and then copied the default form(s) from the Reports folder. Sage had a KB article that doesn't admit anything is wrong but says if it doesn't work, just copy the files. Regarding the 941 self install, I think someone at sage had the idea that someone might want the old formats to remain in history companies. Can't imagine why. Been that way for a long time.

The Reddi links will go invalid shortly as Sage is changing all these to require login. The URLs will change so that even if you login you will need to bookmark a new link.
