  • 1.  Is SOTAMAS90 ODBC Needed At All In a Premium Setup?

    Posted 04-22-2020 12:48
I realize that when a customer moves to Premium if they do external reporting that the SOTAMAS90 no longer works. For external reports, they can connect using MAS_REPORTS or creating a new ODBC based on SQL drivers.

I haven't paid close enough attention to know whether it is safe to completely remove the SOTAMAS90 or does Sage 100 Premium make use of the SOTAMAS90 somehow and should that ODBC be left?

One of my sophisticated customers is asking because they use VDI to create and manage their desktops so they have much more control over what gets created for every user in their environments.

I just took a look at a VM that has only Premium installed and while the MAS90 ODBC driver (32-bit) is installed, there is no DSN created using it.  I suspect that the driver install is just an oversight in installer creation, but I don't know for sure.

To my best knowledge, SOTAMAS90 is never used on a Premium system.
We either use SQL DSN's (with a default database), or connections directly to the SQL server/instance/database.
A Domain group given SQL read permissions is easier to manage than giving out the MAS_Reports password (or managing SQL permissions user by user).
