  • 1.  Is it just me or is requiring an update and bouncing a user to the web to download pre-requisites a really poor experience?

    Paya / Sage Exchange is currently in the midst of their neverending march to update to yet another version/brand of their vault. During this time some customers receive a prompt to update. This kicks off some type search to be sure they have all the required prerequisites. In some cases if they don't then they are bounced to the web to download .NET.

    IMO in this age of malware and municipalities paying 6+ figure ransoms - bouncing people to the web to download anything is a poor customer experience.

    Am I outdated in my thinking?

    No, you are exactly right! I took a call from a not-to-happy customer about exactly that. Fortunately they also said that they understood that this is something I have no control over.

    Pre-req's including a .NET update on workstations / terminal servers... needing IT involvement and a reboot, as a "surprise" one day: poor deployment planning.

    I too received client calls that the Paya update did not install smoothly. Required multiple retries on too many of the workstations that process credit cards.

    ​Attending Paya's presentation at the Sage Third-Party Advantage Conference (STAC) online on Wednesday gave me more than a clue about their organization. They were disorganized and the presentation started and stopped several times. The other presentations I attended went smoothly, so it was just Paya. If there were customers attending, I'm sure they did not have a positive impression. Sage should probably disengage from them.
