Is it just me, or does the term ""lifer"" (as it relates to prison) seem to describe how I feel about being stuck in this industry?

    I don't think you are off-base.

The only time that time matters is time spent in prison.

I thought all the time I spent drinking vodka tonics to erase memories of shitty Abra & MAS software was valuable time spent.

Why don't you tell us how you really feel!

Well, personally, I have a CTJ meeting with your deadbeat spouseand lay out the lifestyle you are expecting him to provide!!! The rule in my household is ""Happy Wife, Happy Life""!!!!!!! It sounds like you are stuck in the prison laundermat doing the Warden's wear! Time to clang the coffee cup against the bars of life!

And I thought all I had to do was keep the dishwasher empty.

Empty? Aren't you lucky! I have to fill it AND empty it plus half the time I have to cook the meal also!

Jeff, let me explain. I would rather be COOKING all the meals and doing ALL the house projects, NOT sitting here working on Abra and MAS. Does that make sense? Maybe Robert Wood can take over all my projects at work so I can stay home!

Honestly, if you aren't doing something you love, it will always feel like a prison sentence. I""m lucky in that I like what I do and helping people with CRM so it's still fun for me. Even the bad prospects don't get me down for long.

I think I need to order up a batch of ""I'd rather be ..."" bumper stickers and send one to Amy.

Just think about how the really large partners must feel. They've got to have the same frustrations - times 10 or 1,000 ...

I hope the owners at those firms are making enough to offset the silent desperation and feelings of imprisonment. :)

At some point, it's a situation of ""money doesn't matter"". How much could someone pay me to be unhappy? In that sense, I would actually take *LESS* money to be more happy as opposed to taking more money to be less happy.

Just be thankful you're not having to do my laundry any more.

Amy, I understand you perfectly! 12 years ago I dumped the corporate life for the that of a consultant. A mid life crisis career change if you will - instead of the blonde and red convertible, I jumped on the MAS bandwagon! My wife still wonders if she wouldn't have been better off had I gone the blonde and convertible route. Lately, life in the MAS lane has me wondering also (though not about the blonde and convertible). I am starting to believe that one should change careers every ten to 15 years or so just to stay sharp and focused. In a sense, moving to VA has been a career change. I need to get out and start enjoying it more..............
