Client is trying to move from v2020 with OM to v2023 with PM and IRP.  However, we can not get IRP to create PO's correctly, nor to calculate Production demand properly.  We have a MAKE item with 12 on hand, 1 on sales order, 12 being made on WT and 7 more being made on WT.  If you drill down into the demand it shows (by date); that 0 need to be made.  However, it is calculating to Make 6.  It is Reorder Point of 30.  The six is is suggesting they "make" is not visible anywhere.  I have rebuilt sorts (PM, PO, SO, IM); and still it recommends to make 6.  If I increase Reorder Point by 2 (from 30 to 32), it then recommends to make 8.  The Six (6) it is suggesting comes from nowhere.  Screen shot of item maintenance, reorder points, the IRP Recommendation and the IRP Drill down.  The first line of that drill down makes no sense.  Inventory Quantity = 12, Inventory Balance = 12, Production Qty = 6.  I opened a case with Sage but maybe someone here sees what I am missing.

I'm no expert on operations management, but I note that the 1 on sales order and the 7 on work ticket show a required date back in February and the comments suggest that the quantities were reduced.

If you ignore those two lines then you have 12 on hand and 12 on work ticket and minimum quantity is 30.  That would work out to 6.

Possibly the required date is what is causing it?

Good Point @Thomas Rogers.  I figured out what it was doing.  Earlier when IRP created WT ending in 00115, it summarized the Sales Order 0016184 Demand for One Unit (1) and ADDED the Reorder Point Demand for (6) six More Units, creating a Work Ticket linked to the sales order for seven (7) units.  The Sales Order only needs 1 unit.  The WT IRP Created was for 7 units.

Now, IRP is saying, "hey, reduce that work ticket 00115 from 7 to 1 because your Sales Order only needs 1; and Create a NEW Work Ticket to make 6 for stock.  Which is really silly.  I'm still waiting to hear back from Sage on this new information I provided to them.

    • Item is Make to Stock, so it should always "summarize" all the quantity needed for open orders and reorder point into one single work ticket.
    • Work ticket 00115 should not have been created for 7 AND Linked to a Sales Order; that was done wrong by IRP
    • Suggesting on a Drill Down to "reduce quantity" on a released work ticket (which may have costs already) is not right.
    • Recommending to MAKE a new work ticket (on a drill down most wont' even see) "before you have reduced the original work is wrong
    • and lastly, if an item is flagged as Make to Stock and there are a dozen sales orders for this item, don't go making a dozen WT's linked to the Sales Order  it is Make to Stock, recommend to make one work ticktet for all that is needed.  If someone needs it to be "to order" they an use the drill down and make the change on a case by case basis.

Great News!  Support just sent me this response.

I received the following response to your email from Engineering.  Please confirm your questions have been answered and that the support ticket can be closed.

    • All of the concerns she noted have been addressed in 2023 PU4 and 2024 PU1.
    • The "Make To" column in IRP Item Detail screen will now be dependent to an item's procurement type.
    • Make to Stock/Buy to Stock = "Stock"
    •      Make to Order/Buy to Order = "Order"
    • The exceptions to this rule are Inventory & Projected Demand line. Both will always be set to "Stock" irrespective of the item's procurement type.
    • In her sample data, when she creates a work ticket, a single work ticket for inventory will be created for 34 pieces.
    • This change is being tested at the moment.
