First, I do understand why this year's IRD had these prerequisites:
(And I'm not talking about the GLAPARS of the world with no enhancements)
-
Accounts Payable 1099's
- Sage 100 2022.0 - 2022.2 (7.10.0 - 7.10.2) plus IRD (released 12/15/2022)
- Sage 100 2021.3 - 2021.5 (7.00.3 - 7.00.5) plus IRD (released 12/15/2022)
- Sage 100 2020.5 - 2020.6 (6.20.5 - 6.20.6) plus IRD (released 12/15/2022)
It's a failure on Sage's part to require their remaining Sage 100 user base - many of them being larger companies with multiple integrations ( a whole other nightmare of mismanagement, but that's for another day) - to be at any particular PU to install an IRD at FYE.
An end user should not have to call around to xx number of 3rd party providers to see who is and who isn't compatible with certain PU - just so the user can install an IRD for year-end. No surprise that Production Management 2020 isn't compatible with 2020 PU6. Hopefully, a customer notes this shortcoming BEFORE installing PU6.
The IRDs understandably come out in a VERY compressed period at year-end.
My complaint is =
It is a bad design and a wrong business decision to release these IRDs, which may require some of Sage's larger Sage 100 customers to rush and install product updates which in turn need the user to reinstall compatible 3rd party enhancements.
IRDs should be released for supported versions with any PU.
I believe at least part of the requirement for a specific PU was due to a DBA field in AP. My suggestion would be that the update for that DBA is shipped as part of the IRD. Perhaps there's (slightly) more to this PU requirement than meets the eye. IMO, Sage should have thought this through more carefully.
Yes, skipping the IRD is certainly an option. Until you consider that for the last 30 years Sage seems to treat the IRD as something that MUST be sequentially done or blamed for any number of random bad things that might happen during tax time.
