  • 1.  IP Entry Doesn't Match Between Inventory and GL

    Posted 07-26-2019 13:22
I have a client that reported their GL Journals (pulled from GL_DetailPosting) and their Inventory Transaction History (IM_ItemTransactionHistory) for Inventory Physical Count entries don't match when you compare the journal number for several journals over the last few months. A few small out of balances we explained because of the Extended Standard Cost field but there are other journals that don't match by several hundred thousand dollars. The GL journals themselves balance, all the accounts used in the entry are the accounts I would expect to see when looking at product line maintenance but the numbers are just wrong. FWIW, the GL is always higher than inventory detail. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Are there other tables I need to be considering? As much as the accountant in me loves a good audit, this is starting to feel like a wild goose chase. Thank you!

The Physical Count Register prints the lines with a single cost (probably last or average - I haven't verified).  But when the adjustments are actually made, it's going to use actual costs (like for FIFO/LIFO/LOT/Serial).  I always see SOME diff between the two based on that, but I'm not sure how such huge differences would come about unless the Register uses Last and your cost method is FIFO and you have some gigantic cost changes over time.  Or incorrectly entered costs that no one noticed...

I think you need to use either ExtendedCost or ExtendedStandardCost, based on the item's valuation.
When I see such things I'd look at the Paperless PDFs from a batch with a difference to see if something stands out as a cause.  (Perhaps a Product Line uses a different GL account?).

Also look for postings with source module as GL... maybe someone did manual GL entries to that source journal, throwing things off.

Agree with above and I'd look at the possibility that someone did make an entry directly to GL using IP as the source journal code.  GL detail by source, modules only vs. GL detail by source GL only may reveal the issue.
