On the User preferences we often set the
Lookup Limit for initial display to 5,000 or so to limit the time lookup takes before responding.
You can set the
Partial Lookup Default to
Begins with or
Greater than so user can restrict the lookup that way.
Copying everything to a History company (for archive reference), then purging history for a smaller sized file is the other common plan.
You might name the company
HIS - History before 2010. Lee

I have a client that just upgraded to v2018 PU3 from 2015. They have 140k + invoices in AR Invoice History Inquiry. When the user enters a recent invoice number in Invoice history Inquiry to view it locks up Invoice History Inquiry and takes about 20-30 seconds to load the invoice details and switch to the lines tab on that invoice. If the user enters an invoice number that is very old ( ex. 0000002) it loads the invoice instantly to view and they can switch to the lines tab without it locking up.
I recommended to purge some history so it speeds up the time to search and load the newer invoices. Purging 100k invoices, rebuilding sorts and rebuilding key files made no difference. Also they did not have this issue at all with this amount of invoices in history in v2015 and are only now noticing in v2018. What would have changed in the program/ backend that is causing it to slow down so much? Purging
** Mods on 2015 eBiz CC and StarShip **Mods on 2018 eBiz CC, StarShip and now Website Pipeline
Troubleshooting so far:
-copied live company to test company code, rebuild sort files, Invoice history works instantly in test company code. Same exact steps in live company code with rebuild of sorts and same issue with Invoice history in Live.
-Try to copy the test company code back over the LIVE company code (since the test company code works correctly). Error "All users must exit" when trying to copy back over. Nobody in Sage at all, no services on at all that touch sage. I have seen this error in another 2018 system as well.
-Fix: Copy Live company MAS_XXX folder, create new MAS_XXX folder; on front end create company XXX (original live company code)- choose activate and accept to use exact same company key on backend. Now make my copy of GOOD "test" company code data into this XXX company code. No error that "Users must exit" In theory my "test company" that worked correctly that is now copied over to my LIVE company code should still work. When I test it does not work again.
-Therefore my Live company code is corrupt (the key or something tied to it), the client has to use a NEW company code. Everything is switched and this function works. eBiz and StarShip and reconfigured to new company code. Function still works.
**Website pipeline has been configuring some stuff, I have no idea what or what it touches.
A few weeks later, client says the issue is not fixed and still having the same issue in Invoice history inquiry in this new company code. Client copies the data to test and purges history up to 2015 and rebuilds sorts and key files, no change.
I try the same steps I tried prior to this mess when it worked, copy the company to a test company and rebuild sort files. Now Issue is in test company as well. I am at a loss… I could really use a fresh set of eyes and suggestions on other things to check and try.
