Our strategy is focused on building ecosystems and platforms in the cloud. We value our loyal Quicken customers and we're seeking a buyer who will provide the product support and the service they deserve.

The first sentence is I believe their strategy. They probably didn't see a way to turn Quicken into a recurring revenue stream - especially since so much happens online. Don't forget they also bought Mint some years back so it's possible they will use Mint as a type of Quicken replacement.
