What's the best way to refund an employee for insurance if the refund amount is greater than what has been deducted year to date? Can there be a a negative amount in the a cafeteria plan if there is not enough accumulated YTD?

If they need to refund an employee $318.45 for her vision insurance (refund all the way back to July 2020), can they put a negative amount in the vision deduction code. Then. once payroll is run, change the deduction code the correct amount for normal processing moving forward.

Sure.  Go for it until you can't!!!  I have experienced issues with pretax insurance resulting in negative earnings.  I posted something about a month ago.  the Sage workaround did not work for me.

Not entirely related but beware the negative deduction amount.
We had a situation where the negative deduction did not honor Section 125 Tax Rule and undercharged FICA, MEDI, and CASDI.
