  • 1.  Inactive inventory items and Bill of Materials

Coincidentally I have had 2 clients ask me if there is a way to filter out inactive items in bill of materials. Both in the BOM Maintenance and (more importantly) Production Entry. One client has users accidentally doing a production entry for inactive items.

I thought it would be a simple change using custom lookup, but there is no link to CI_Item in the lookup. My next move was to add a UDF and use data source to pull the "inactive" field in from CI_Item. That also does not appear to be an option. I suspect that this is because a BOM is not always tied to an item.

I'll probably mov on to scripting a popup warning or something similar. Before I go there, has anyone ever tackled this? Is scripting the best answer?

This is an oldie.  Perhaps it will work for your situation.

The original poster did some genius work.

I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to lookup | Sage 100 (90minds.com)

Thanks Jeff I actually tried that and the was able to add the field to my lookup. But immediately blew an error that the lookup was corrupt. I didn't troubleshoot that and maybe I should have. When I am back from vacation, I'm going to try that again.

Well thanks @Jeff Schwenk your reply prompted me to try that Link Table a second time and it is working this time. I am not sure what went wrong the first time, but I was able to add the table CI_Item as a link table in VI and then it showed up in my lookup with all the fields, and I can filter based on the inactive item field now
