In Sage 100 2017, a new customer has production en

In Sage 100 2017, a new customer has production entries based on bills of materials. This is pretty straight forward. They also do something called a BLEND where they take Item Code X from stock (3 lot numbers) and remix the lot numbers to create a new lot number. They want to do this with a production entry so that it is all consistent with their current processes. MAS will not allow me to add Item Code X as a component to make the same item. Any thought?

I hit that scenario and ended up doing an intermediate production (FG -> Blend -> FG), but I would love to hear others' ideas.

I think ACS has that functionality as part of their work order efficiency enhancement. If your using BOM only and not work order (or as a workaround) you can make a ""dummy"" item (call it ""Y"" for this description. You would need to do 2 production entries 1. Enter a production entry to produce finished good item ""Y"" (Y should be using lot valuation also). The component would be item ""X"" and distribute your three lot numbers that you are combining. That Production entry will need to be updated fully before step 2 2.Efenter another production entry to produce finished good ""X""- the only component is item ""Y"" and use the lot number from step 1 that is a bit clunky but that is a way to get around it.

Doesn't DSD have a mod for Bill Production re that, too?

@BethBowers, yes, BM-1026 (http://www.dsdinc.com/enhancement/parent-items-as-components-of-themselves-2/) though it hasn't been updated to the last few releases.

DSD has one but it is with Serial Numbers only.

You can use a phantom bill to work around the issue.

@MoiraGoggin I am not sure what you mean. I don't think I can use a phantom bill in production entry. I must be missing something.

you can do it with WO and MA Automation for both Lot and Serial. you can even do WO on the fly with parent and child item the same. you can even change lot/serial number on the fly in production. but its all WO. I have never seen it for BOM.

We have one customer that has been using IA transactions for this since before we became involved. (Receiving bulk lots, then dividing into smaller lots once things are counted... basically the opposite of the described ""blend""). They refuse to give up the ""quick and easy"" process, in spite of all the data entry errors.

thanks @KevinMoyes. I think that is a good idea as well but customer does not like it. They want it all done in Production Entry.

I'd think it could be possible with one Bill: production to a temp item code, then disassembly into your target lot#'s.

The IA transactions break any Lot Traceability reporting, but the disassembly would hold (and eliminates the extra BLEND item). I like it.

Yes, lot traceability is the reason we want our customer to stop using IA's. They keep asking for reports we can't make because of their process. I'd think disassembly would still require the blend item, but without requiring a bill for the second transaction.
