  • 1.  In-Place Windows Server 2012 to 2019 - is a Sage 100 2021 Premium reinstall required?

    Posted 04-13-2023 09:25

I have a customer on Sage 100 2021 Premium, where IT will upgrade their server from Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2019.

Does Sage 100 2021 Premium, which is on the 2012 server, need reinstalling?

I have seen Will Sage 100 need to be reinstalled after an In-place Windows Server Upgrade? which suggests that a reinstall is recommended.

Can IT take its chances and upgrade the Windows Server from 2012 to 2019 with a high likelihood that they don't need to reinstall Sage 100?

Any feedback from someone who has done this?
I can swear I've had customers do this, and reinstall was NOT required

In my experience this does work without reinstalling. I have had a number of instances where IT just did the Windows upgrade and never even said anything.

As Premium is all I do I never allow IT to upgrade a server, especially 2012 to 2019 when Premium lives on it.   You can try it and see how the program behaves but I am  totally against what this IT group is doing.  Hopefully Sage will be able to handle it.

@Carmen Cruzthey already needed to switch their database to a new SQL server. At that time, I suggested they also upgrade Sage versions. Sadly, 85% of customers don't think long-term, don't understand the process ( and don't want to listen to the reasoning ).

I'm thinking their biggest risk is if the server OS upgrade kicks out or replaces one of the myriads of .NET prerequisites.

    Hi Wayne,
if anything should come up with this process and you need help just let me know.  You're going to need to test everything heavily after they do this to make sure everything's working in regards to to printing, functionality, paperless office VI and 3rd party MODS and so on as there could be damage caused and.net is definitely at risk. and if they're upgrading SQL to a newer version that could be a challenge just let me know if you need me.
