In general, what's the ""best"" way to handle UPC codes in the system? Client is on 4.05 currently...upgrade to current later this year.

One way I've done this is to scan or enter them in as an alias item number. I don't know if that is the preferred solution or not but it seemed to work for this customer.

Thanks Wayne, that's how I've done it in the past, but just thought I'd check greater Minds to see if there was something I should consider. Appreciate the help as always.

The last customer who did this connected a cheap bar code scanner and scanned in the UPC codes to the alias item. Was much quicker and more accurate than keying.

We usually recommend the client use the General Alias number for the UPC field.

Although clunky I have also added the UPC as a udf field. Mainly for ease of reporting or label printing.

If the customer wants to use a bar code scanner they may have problems if you are using a UDF.

If client needs to do barcode scanning then a vi job can be setup to sync them to the alias table every night. Also I am sure a script could be written too . I think it all depends on the customer needs
