Importing work tickets (Production Management)

Has anyone had any success importing new work tickets in Production Management?  Scanco said go to Sage Support.  Sage Support can't figure it out yet.

    Essentially, the issue is ...

Import into JT_WorkTicketHeader complains that the Step doesn't exist
Import into JT_WorkTicketStep complains that the header doesn't exist.
    So, it's a circular issue

This is v2019 PU2 with all the hot fixes installed that I can find.

We did this type of import in work order; but the equivalent header work order import didn't check that the step existed yet so we could move forward

    Any input is most appreciated!

    Thanks, Robert

Looks like someone dropped the ball and i have no idea who to point the finger at.
Looking at the object handles available in Work Ticket Entry, the header object has 3 object handle properties that stand out, while on the "Steps" tab, "Lines" and "Steps" have the same handle whereas while on the "Materials" tab, "Lines" and "Parts" have the same handle.
This was taken while on the Steps tab.
This was taken while on the Materials tab.
I would expect the VI import to function similar to a framework level Bill of Materials import, where importing into BM_BillHeader allows you to also import into BM_BillDetail, BM_BillOptionCategory, BM_BillOptionHeader, and BM_BillOptionDetail where each table has a different record type prefix.
In theory, it is probably possible to hack together some perform logic to handle the Steps through the coBusiness'Steps handle using either the IMP$[x] variables or temp fields to read the values.
Either Scanco or Sage need to step up and specify whether or not we can expect to be able to import work tickets through stock VI.

Well, as Harry Truman used to say "If you can't convince them, confuse them".  The buck stops at Sage's desk!  Their name is on the product.  But good luck with getting anything changed this year!  Perhaps post the request in Sage City?  I have heard that "key" personnel read that paper everyday.  The question is, is it the front page or the comics?  Dilbert does come to mind.  Do you call out Cody @ Scanco?  He posted an open letter the other day for people to contact him with issues.  But he is in charge of all things sales.  How is this fix going to increase his top line?  Good luck with that!

And then there's Maude, er the Mod Squad.  No, not those hipster cats from the late sixties/early seventies seen these days on TVLand, but 90M's very own.  Rumor has it (unless your attended MOTM earlier this year and sat in on the session) that there is a "secret" (ok, not well publicized) gang of wiz bang tech guru members who have a direct line red phone to the Commissioner (or is it a telephone booth to Sage CONTROL).  Again, this is all rumor (as I did not attend MOTM).  Who is on this team of black ops specialist?  What is their mission?  Is their role to be designer's in Q's lab, dreaming up cool tools for James to use in his fight against the bad Vlads of the world or are they break/fix specialists whose mission is to become more like the Maytag repairman?  For now, only the Shadow knows.......

Stay tuned for scenes from next week's episode!

    Help us Obi-Wan Kenobi.

PM is not Work Order, it's JobOps. So the simple answer is no.

Does anyone know if the data dictionary for PM is available to the rest of Sage yet?  One of the first things I ever tried to do in PM was to create UDF in the Lot number file for PM and then send it to the standard Sage lot file.   Could not do it.  Showed it to Sage and they agreed.  That was right after the release of PM and as far as I know, it has not been fixed.    Back in the day, they would fix issues like that inside a week...

OK, are we talking work order or Job Ops here???  WO = PM (made to stock).  Job Ops = Operations Management (fka PM Made to order).  If resellers can't keep it straight, how does Sage expect end users to know the difference.

PM is Job Ops Lite, which is probably what John meant.

I sent the details to a contact in Scanco. Hopefully they can shed some light on how we should address an issue like this.

@Jeff Schwenk , I've been working on that for a while. I just finished whipping it into shape this morning. What Wayne can do in 15 minutes takes me 2 hours.

Thank you all for your input.  With a bit of egg on my face, I confess I was using a build from Oct 2019 and should have been using the build from Apr 2020.   Once that got figured out, I was able to import new work tickets.  Scanco provided screen shots of the 'data' tab for the VI job to Sage support and they 'read' them off to me on the phone and what was being read was not on my screen, so I reinstalled with latest downloads and all was well.

The one thing that still can't be figured out is how to import a new work ticket and have materials auto loaded from the bill of materials.  The UI does it (by clicking Import From | Bill of Materials) but I can't see to get it as part of the import.  If anyone has guidance on that one, I would be all ears!

    Thanks, Robert

Thanks for the update, guess I must have an old build installed too. Good to know that is resolved at least.
When I get a chance, I'm going to see if there are any methods available to coBusiness that can copy the materials from the bills. If something exists, might be able to accomplish this with a simple perform logic.

I got this back from Scanco:

    "
Currently it is not coded to do that.  We drastically change the UI from WO to work differently.  Operations management we have modified to do that but it was not in the original spec for PM.   I have added it to the list to see if we can add it in 2020.  Will keep you posted."

I haven't upgraded to the latest build yet so i haven't been able to test this is VI but i did find a method that is part of the Parts detail bus called CopyBillDetail. Was a PITA figuring out how many arguments it expected and what it expects in said arguments but without any documentation on it, a whole lot of trial and error, and reviewing forced crash dumps, i found that it accepts 5 arguments.
    1. BillNo
    2. RevisionNo
    3. OptionList: i believe this is the same "option list" used elsewhere, like in sales order entry or BoM production entry. Refer to image added that shows the bill option joined together as a comma delimited list, two spaces represent an option that is left blank.
    4. ExplodeSubAssemblies: i believe this expects a Y or a N.
    5. DestinationStepKey: if you don't know the step key but know the step number, i found another method that is part of the Steps detail bus called GetStepLineKey$. It returns the line key, as a string, for the step number passed as the first and only argument. It expects the step number passed to it to be a 6 character long string.

The CopyBillDetail method will return a 1 if successful and a 0 if unsuccessful.

Here is an example of the bill options string.

I was able to successfully copy a bill to the parts tab from the command window using the method. Here is an example of it being used from the command window.

So i don't know how you plan to structure your source file for your work ticket import but you should be able to use a post read perform logic to execute the method and use the IMP$[x] (replace the "x" with the column number) variables that represent columns in your source file passed as arguments to the method.
You could even add a numeric temp field to the import after the last header field and set it to calculated and use the method as the calculation. Doing it this way will write the result of the method to the temp field so you can review whether or not it succeeded when viewing the vi job log.

Thank you @DavidSpeckII  I was impressed by the work, but alas, this is outside of my skillset.  I haven't worked much with perform logic, so am unsure of some of the syntax and placements
The full calculation is as follows in case I made a typo from your screen shot
    oobusiness'parts'copybilldetail(IMP$[4],"000","","N",oobusiness'steps'getsteplinekey$("000000"));_obj'cleartotals();_obj'cleargrid(maingridctl);_obj'loadlines(maingridctl)

In my source file, the Bill Number is in column 4.
The client does not use revision numbers or options.
    The StepLineKey is always 000001
The Step number is always 000000

I tried the temp as the last Header field, but before the WT lines (the step lines).  I also tried the temp after the 4 WT lines.

I keep getting an error message, so I'm going to assume that I typo'd what was needed or just not putting the correct information.

If you're up for the challenge and want to take a paid gig for this, that would be an option for us.

The above issue aside, I'm also having problems importing multiple work tickets at one time when the QuantityOrdered is the same in sequential orders.  For example, order 1 (qty 5), order 2 (qty 5).  Order  2will fail.  If I change the quantity order to be 5 and 6, the 2 orders import successfully.  This is the screen shot of the log.   To test with a larger source file of 30 orders, I found that 4 orders failed if the quantity ordered was the same as the order previously imported; if I edit the file to change the quantity on those 4 failed orders, the import works.

Thank you for your feedback.  It is very much appreciated.
