  • 1.  Import job using ODBC Data Source - can what I want to do be done?

Here's the scenario:  Client wants to update the Standard Price for selective items in a Product Line.  In their world, the Standard Price is a percentage increase over Retail Price (and the percentage varies based on Product Line).

My vision is to have them utilize a 2-step process:

    1. Use the Automatic Price Change utility to prompt for the product line and reduce Standard Price to $0 for all items in that PL.
    2. Run a VI import job to prompt for the % increase and the PL, then import into Standard Price the new value (e.g. if Standard Price is $1,00 and the increase % is 10%, then import $1.10) into Standard Price for all items in the PL.

Can this be done using ODBC Data Source instead of importing from a file?

do they value the items based on Standard cost?  Do they use the standard cost field for reporting?  If not, could they re-purpose the Standard cost field for the "retail price" they mark up and use the built-in feature for % markup?

Their parts use Standard Cost valuation.

If you add a UDF for the percentage to the PL table, then you could probably come up with something using File Assign temp fields in a calculation... but that seems like a lot of effort, when a spreadsheet can do the same thing a lot easier.  If you need to repeat for a lot of company codes, a custom report to create the spreadsheet could help.
