I'm trying to see if I can generate a purchase ord

I'm trying to see if I can generate a purchase order with component items from a sales order where the sales order contains a standard bill of material. If I try to generate the PO from the sales order with the bill, it just pulls the bill item over. Is there a way to generate purchase orders for the actual component items?

I have not tested with an exploded kit but that seems to me to be the only way you might be able to do it.

I'm playing with that now, but I think your right. I think the Bill has to be a Kit item

If the sales order item has a standard bill there is not a way to do this natively in the system. I have never tried it with a kit bill, that might work.

This sounds like a job for #scripting. Let me know if you need help.

aaron - that sounds like a big scripting project. I wrote a generate purchase order script in 4.4 (before they added it in 4.5) from sales order entry and it was huge. Adding in the BOM logic would be ok as long as there are not many levels.

The former extended solution SO-1068 explodes kit components to inventory items. We have several customers who use it to monitor inventory levels and purchasing of kit components. ISM and DSD sell versions of this solution.

Same feedback as @MichaelNottoli - the added benefit of SO-1068 is that the customer can track the sales of the individual items (assuming that they want to).

Probably so, @WilliamSchlageter. But it would be a fun adventure. :)

Another option is looking at Valogix for terrific inventory planning and automation of replenishment (standard items, kits, kit components, the works. Works very well and it's available in a SaaS version.

Purchase Agent from JobOps. At this point, the only integration that does not exist is with Work Order, since that's what JobOps is for.
