I'm stuck on a process question involving MRP and a make-to-order environment. The scenario is Customer A orders 20 of part X for delivery on 3/25. A work order is produced and the goods are ready on 3/15, but held in a future-dated shipping batch until 3/25. Along comes Customer B who orders 6 of part X for 3/20. MRP views the 20 on-hand and allocates 6 of them to Customer B's order (despite they are already In Shipping status in IM module) then suggests creating another WO for 6 units to Customer A's sales order number. This is troublesome because the items are Lot tracked for quality purposes and the units are not reallocated as MRP suggests. A separate WO will be produced for Customer B's 6 parts. Morale of the story: Is there any way to let MRP know that the 20 units of item X are not On Hand, without processing the Ship/Invoice early?

Are you using the ""make for"" function in WO?

@DebThomas, they are already using Make For SO and this data is filled in, but MRP seems to ignore it. @BobKohlmeyer, separate warehouse could work but no one likes adding more steps to their process. I will suggest this.

I believe that the inventory view of ""in shipping"" came along at a later date, it was not original code. Meaning that the MRP module does not take into account the sales order in the SO Shipping Batch. Is it necessary to put the produced inventory items, into inventory prior to being ready to ship them?

Yep, WO completion transaction must be posted in order to be able to ship the quantities.

Is the valuation Lot? Can you enable the ability to enter the lot number on the sales order. Maybe that will reserve them?

I believe it would ""commit"" them @GregStiles . Of course, I don't know how MRP would handle that as @MadelineStefanou stated above...

What version did Lot entry on SO become available? They are on 2015.

I believe it was added in 2014. It is a Sales Order Setup Option Question.
