I'm back from a trip into NYC to see Salesforce and Sage Life. Overall very impressive keynote. There were 20,000 people who attended the 3 day local event. Sage Life still being shown as dashboards with little talk about the underlying accounting. Supposedly Sage Life will be showing something more (early release?) by Summit. So Sage was a little Exhibitor at a large show?

In a way - yes. In a way they are a startup who have the potential to grow very quickly in the area -- at least compared to many of the much smaller companies who were displaying. I think Sage's journey with Salesforce is just beginning. At this point Sage is looking to increase name recognition (rebranding might not have helped as much as they wished). As you walk through the people attending it seems as if most are sales and marketing people (duh - Salesforce is a CRM) so this is a different market into which Sage now tries to sell Sage Life. Lots and lots of questions and concerns to be dealt with moving forward.

After seeing the Salesforce keynote and the cloud expo - I can't imagine Salesforce spending money to invest in or buy Sage? Why do that when Salesforce has such dominance in their niche that companies are clamoring to associate with them for the recognition and platform. Of course I could be wrong and they announce a deal tomorrow but really why would Salesforce want Sage which has predominantly dated (but beloved) on-premises products that would be difficult to market to a Salesforce cloud customer. Sorry I just don't see SFDC having any interest in buying or investing in Sage unless there's a very high likelihood of migrating a significant portion of Sage customers.
