  • 1.  Illegal Characters in an Item Code?

    Are there characters that are not allowed when creating an item code?  If so, is there a list of characters that can not be used?

    I don't have an official list but I think to be safe, you should avoid anything outside of the Chr(32) to Chr(125) range - ASCII Chart

    Not all outside that range are illegal but some could be troublesome like the ~ symbol Chr(126). Some inside the range can be troublesome too like double-quote Chr(34) and single-quote Chr(39), the inches and feet designation customers like to use.

    Yeah, the scope of characters allowed by Sage 100 is more open than it should be.  Users copy / paste a new item code from Excel, and presto: CRLF characters inserted at the end.

    The * character may also be problematic.  Test by trying to do a renumber/merge.
