Sage 100

I'm sure I am overlooking something.
If I don't install demo data during the initial Sage 100 install -- how do I get into Sage 100? 

From memory, probably faulty. I don't think Sage lets you go anywhere until t you get past the "select a company code" prompt.
Maybe that has changed? 

And if the answer is that you can't get into Sage 100 without having at least one company code - shouldn't there automatically be a check to install ABC or one of the dummy companies?

Open the Admin panel and create a company code there.

(We usually always add one demo company during the initial install, but I forgot once and had to use this method).

SOP for me is to always install the ABC company.  A better solution for Sage is to program a prompt to company maintenance so that you can create a company code.  I would wager that the WAD solution is to do what @Kevin Moyes suggested.
