This press release issue during Sage Future 2026 seems easy to overlook at first but has a couple noteworthy items:
Sage expands developer platform with new AI tools and commercial models
Things that I note:
1. "The update introduces a more unified developer experience across Sage Intacct, Sage X3 and Sage Active, giving partners a clearer way to build once, integrate more easily and bring solutions to market faster. For customers, that means quicker access to connected tools, more automated workflows and solutions that fit more closely around how their businesses operate."
- The prominence of only three products - perhaps Sage's flagships going forward
2. Alongside the new tooling, Sage is introducing more flexible pricing and revenue models, including usage-based pricing and revenue sharing, to help partners grow more predictably as adoption increases.
- It's early days and perhaps some of this usage-based ( consumption ) pricing is already in place elsewhere in the portfolio ( Acumatica has had it for a while now, SAP talks about adopting it). I'm aware Sage has been pursuing this with IVS. As AI proves to be a threat to seat-based licensing it becomes easier to see a world where consumptio-based pricing becomes the norm. In my view, it's all about recurring revenues and for active users it doesn't become more recurring that pricing by consumption.
Thoughts?
