ICYMI: Linh Phuong Nguyen ( Sage 100 Product Marketing Manager ) Departed Sage July 2021

According to Phuong's LinkedIn, she is now VP of marketing at Archwell whose website describes the company as "THE LARGEST PROVIDER OF MORTGAGE PRODUCTS, TECHNOLOGY, AND SERVICES THAT YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF UNTIL NOW…"

Phuong took over when Timothy Harfield departed as Sage 100 PMM in July 2020.
I believe prior to working with the Sage 100 line she may have worked in a similar capacity with Sage 300.
She had been with Sage for 2 years according to LinkedIn

    No word on her replacement.

Wish her the best, and confirm, she was with the 300 line before moving over to 100.

Is it me or is the revolving door at Sage spinning a bit faster these day?  Did she hear about Sage's annual musical chairs dance coming up in September?  And i wish her the best at the new gig and that she will accomplish more than she did at Sage.  After all, something is more than the NOTHING she did for Sage 100 and the channel!  Just amazing what $140,000,000 in annual revenue doesn't buy.

IMO, Phuong was merely growing her career since college. Sage was her longest stint, at just under 5 years. She finished her MBA a few months ago; she probably planned to leave after completing it; I wouldn't be surprised if that project was a significant reason she stayed at Sage more than a couple years. (Nothing wrong with that in my book.) Her resume seems entirely in the area of financial-related software. Her new company is aimed at providing all the infrastructure a mortgage company might want so that its owners can concentrate on funding and customers. This is AP-AR-HR Automation on steriods, which is what the future decades look like for all businesses. This is an excellent career move.

Does everybody remember Timothy's presentations at ThriveOn in January 2020? To me, it was the capstone of a year's effort by him to make it believable to partners that Sage 100 would be an active part of Sage's portfolio. I came away from that thinking, "Maybe Lucy is not in the building..." Timothy is a very smart guy and more honest than many; but every product marketing manager has to be a liar -- only the degree matters from company to company. I don't yet know whether he knew that Sage 100 was a dead man walking when gave those January presentations; I think he did not know. (Someday, I'll be able to ask in a way he can answer honestly.)

My interpretation of the events in the first half of 2020 is that somebody very senior at Sage concluded that Sage 100 could not realistically generate enough new logo sales to keep the product viable. That viability claim was the underpinning of Timothy's entire presentation premise, so he quit. His decision would have produced significant waves in Atlanta - nobody in the Sage 100 line would believe anymore that this was a growth product.

So employees behaved rationally. If they were there to grow their experiences and skill, they stayed. If they'd already been there a while and their career was still in growth mode (as opposed to those gliding into retirement -- nothing wrong with that) then they looked for greener pastures, as Phuong did. Her replacement will likely be a less experienced person looking for the experience of using social media and related tools to grow the stickiness of a large existing product line; if they're good, Sage will promote them into Intacct-X3, and if they tire of Sage BS they'll move on after ~3 years.

It's our reality, and we can't change that. What will each of us do to make the most of that Reality? What can 90 Minds do to help you with that?

90 Minds needs to establish higher level contacts at Sage. Start at the top and work our way down. Kings meet with Kings.

I had spoken with Phuong a couple weeks ago and learned she was leaving.  She did connect me with some new contacts and I plan on exploring that route.

But I couldn't agree more Wayne. I have been itching to work my way up for a few months now.   My goal is to ultimately connect with the right person right now sooner rather than later.

I appreciate the input and any suggestions.

Jerry - Thank you for your questions. All very relevant given the turnover.

100% agree with @Wayne Schulz.  We should be talking to the kings or queens (in Sage's case).  if you need an introduction, @Sue Bennett or @John Hoyt have excellent connections to the upper echelon TRUE decision makers.  As is the case for selling Sage 100, you have to get get past the gate keepers to the decision makers.  Failure to do so risks making 90M an irrelevant group.  Our dues are too high to be irrelevant.  As I recall, the group has several members in the BPAC group.  Leverage their insight as well.  Linda Cade is not serving us well!

There a number of parts of "engagement" that Anne is working on. IMO, the Sage part is the most frustrating -- the constant turnover only makes it worse. Sage's apparent changes in product and market strategy in the past 3 years doesn't help any -- remember that Intacct STILL sells direct.

Here's the hardest part: What is 90 Minds' ask, its Call To Action for Sage NA execs? Sage 100 is clearly in a sort of "maintenance mode" to keep its customers from leaving the farm until they can be moved to the new fields (Intacct and X3) and that will NOT change.

So what, specifically, should we be offering to Sage NA that will be valuable to them in advancing their strategic goals? We have some ideas, but I would really like to hear unprompted ideas from 90 Minders.

I suggest a new thread as this is going to potentially veer off topic from what is a news alert ( and IMO should have been transmitted by 90 Minds itself and not picked up randomly by me)

    Hi Jeff

We all agree this is very important and this is one of my top strategic goals.  But I hope to also uncover other opportunities for growing 90 Minds outside of that box.  I like to think that the relevance comes from the community and not from Sage and that will be my focus.   I would definitely appreciate any recommended introductions then maybe I can work some magic.
