Cindy, while not 100% applicable to your request, this is more in support of Gene's comment using an Excel query. The response below is from a reseller I met this year at Summit. We attended a session where he made an offhand comment about the slowness of reports. Of course when I heard that comment, I made a note to talk to him after the class to talk to him about - you guessed it - Access pass through queries and pivot tables. Several weeks later, I did a webinar for Doug and his staff. And based on the comments below, they have been using these tools in a big way. I gave up on VI exports 7 years ago, taught myself Excel queries and haven't looked back. At the risk of beating a dead horse, learning these tools will change your life..................
From Doug - Thanks for checking in with me. I meant to send you an update on our implementation of PTQ's and pivot tables. We have actively using PTQs as replacements for Crystal reports that involve large data files or require 2 or more sub reports. Much faster processing time and we have more flexibility formatting and filtering data. The other thing I like is the ability of our non-programming consultants to build PTQs and not involve programmers, so it gives them another skill set.
I have also built a few pivot tables in Excel that link back to pivot tables. This is an exceptionally powerful tool. I built two generic pivot tables, one for GL Detail drilldown and another for PR Perpetual history drill down. With filters this give a great tool for users to look at the detail. I've given these to a handful of customers who are beta testing the idea for me. But I can see some big benefits for customers with drill down to Job Cost detail. Job Ops is another application where pivot table could be useful
