I need to replace my @verizon.net email since Verizon is leaving the email market space. Probably should have done this years ago since they are horrible at keeping spam and junk out of my inbox. Now I have to make a decision on where to migrate my email. They offer a new relationship with @AOL.com ... but doesn't an AOL address scream ""Hello, I am from 1996, what is this Internet you speak of?"". I have a @Yahoo.com email I use, and my Work Email, but I'm trying to decide where to move my Personal email address. Looking for suggestions?

Seems like a lot of folks go with gmail. That's funny about AOL.

Coincidentally Family Guy this past Sunday had a funny reference to Yahoo being ""secondary e-mail for signing up for porn sites"". lol

I'm re-reading, and it appears I can move to the AOL Mail Box, but keep the @Verizon email address. But truthfully, I have so much ""junk"" in my verizon email that I can't stop (or they are no help in stopping). I really just think I need to make a clean break. I don't use my Yahoo email for ""that purpose""... just to be clear. :)

I personally use Yahoo as my email address. I also have a gmail account and forward it to my yahoo account. I do have a similar opinion of AOL accounts as you stated. That is funny that you said it that way.

Many, many years ago, our building was next to an AOL support center. There was an ambulance there every couple of days. Support must have been a tough job!

I use both Gmail and Yahoo. I like Gmail better for the calendar and docs integrations.

One doesn't hear many complaints about gmail. Unless you have a specific reason, it is the lowest-risk choice these days.

Madeline, I had to do that too, and I felt the same about AOL, but I migrated it there, because I can always still change my mind. it was two clicks, and worked fine, I still see my email history, but I don't know if I still will once my verizon shuts down. I told my IT dept they'll have to be more lenient about AOL addresses, because it's not only old farts using it now. As an aside, I almost dropped my fiance early on in the relationship when he said he had an AOL account.

@JerryNorman Well, there is that whole 'google reads your email and targets ads based on it' thing! LOL But I find my google account handy for logging into things.

I have a few email accounts, but when moving my primary family / personal business email off my ISP's domain a few years ago I settled on @live.com. The online interface is not great (after a recent change), but I figure M$ should be around for a while so I won't need to change it again.

Hotmail (now outlook.com) has come a very long way. It's now identical to Exchange/Office 365. Super close web experience to Outlook. If you like Outlook, you can connect it easily to outlook.com without special connectors or limited functionality.

I agree with @MarkChinsky We recently locked down our firm network even more than it had been, and we lost the ability to use gmail from our desktops. I found that Outlook.com is approved and it works great.

Curious @JohnHoyt what did they lock down that made gmail unusable?

I imagine it was more in the vein of ""Shut down all the garbage mashers on the detention level."" ""No, shut them all down!"" The only web-based e-mail remaining as far as I know is Outlook.

Outlook probably works because it uses the same protocols as office 365 and they aren't going to block that
