I need a refresher course in importing to the PR3 (v4.4.5) table. Trying to set up PR for new client. When I try to import the tax information, I get duplicate records. So I reinitialized the PR3 table and imported (blanks for the federal record in the state code). Still nothing. Information seems to be importing short records. Not sure how what is short nor how to lengthen. Thoughts.

Make sure you add a "" "" (3 spaces) for the local tax code too.

Jeff, I think the key is the Federal has to be an assignment, the assignment is blank for three spaces then the Local on the Federal Record has to be assigned as well and be blank for three spaces that way you have a full record. The State Record you Assign or import the State Code (three characters so one may be blank) and then Assign blank for the Local. I know I had to do this with JC2 import for Vendors and Divisions, the assignment had to be blank to get a complete key. For the life of me, I cannot get the local code to import blanks. My import file has three spaces in every field, I have the flag OFF for skipping blank fields, the test import works, but the actual import keeps skipping the local code field. I have tried a csv import and a tab delimited import. I have turned the local code required option on in PR setup. Everytime, the local code is skipped.

I think you still need it. Hard code it and use a formula like space(3) or dim(3)

Try it as a calculated field either using "" "" or one of Jim's suggetions.

The ultimate soluton (kudos to Jim W) was to uncheck the skip blank field for the local code validation under the VALIDATION tab.
