I know this has been discussed previously - what's the trick to having the MAS90 GL prompt to copy a GL from another company if you forget to tell MAS you want to copy during setup. NOTE: I do realize that the standard procedure is to copy DURING the new company setup. My question is about how to workaround when the customer hasn't copied it initially. I think there's a trick to be prompted again. Anyone?

Shot in the dark, but can you reinitialize or rename the setup options so it thinks GL hasn't been setup yet?

Wayne, I just did this on a 4.5 the other day but it should work for 4.3. Setup another company in MAS and go through the GL setup wizard, setting up a new GL in that company. Then just manually copy the GL files from \GLZZZ\ (where ZZZ is the new company you just setup) to \GLXXX\ (where XXX is your original company).

Rename GL.Account and GL.Main .. you will be able to go into the wizard again

Wayne - This should allow you to ""re-activate"" the GL Wizard - http://infosource.sagesoftwareonline.com/sw_attach/kdb.asp?isresolutionconceptid=517180

can't you just rename the glxxx folder? then it won't recognize GL as being setup.

I like ""simple"" fixes. What's really odd is the above worked to get the wizard to prompt to copy the accounts -- but all the descriptions copied over as just the main account description not as the description which may have been added in Account Maintenance.

Renaming GL_Account does not work as it produces an ""GL_ACCOUNT"" missing type error

DFDM GL_Options and flip the New Company flag from N to Y then access any GL screen for new company

Thanks - any ideas why when I tell this to copy the chart from an already existing company that I get a full chart of accounts and the descriptions are only the main account descriptions. I cannot tell if this is a bug or a WAG -- the wizard seems to indicate that the full chart is copied and that seems to be my memory as well only in this case I appear to get the full account # structure but the account DESCRIPTION appears to only carry the MAIN ACCOUNT description and not any changes the customer made to the description in the company I'm copying from..

WAD. It doesn't look at the descriptions of the GL accounts, but rather at those from GL Main and Subaccount Maintenance. It looks for the Short Description in Main Account Maintenance; if it's blank, it looks for the full description. In Subaccount Maintenance, I believe it only looks at the Short Description.

Thanks Barbara - I've not made it to the office yet to test this. It seems odd - although I could also see an argument for not having the descriptions the same. Do you think it will hurt anything just to copy GL_Account from the live to their backup company?

You could try. Another option is to Exchange the account info out of the live and into the new to bring in the descripions. I THINK that will work, but haven't tested.

Wayne, If your Account Structure and Accout Groups are the same in the backup company I see no reason why you could not use GL_Account.m4t, GL_MainAccount.m4t and GL_SubAccount_m4t from the backup company.

I think there is a cross index file in play here for the Account Key and the account number. Be careful if you go this route.

Jeff, Good point though since this is a new company, given you have the three GL files (Masterfile) I think it should be okay to do it this way. I am asking,

As long as the other modules haven't been set up with GL accounts, then you may not have the issue.

To be on the safe side I'll advise them to type in the new account descriptions. Thanks for the feedback.
