I just spent the day with a bizarre group of people out of touch with the times hawking mediocre product at exorbitant prices. I felt dirty and somewhat ashamed for participating in the spectacle when it was all over.

No, I wasn't at a preview version of Sage Summit. I went to the Renaissace Fair in Wisconsin. It was quite the lesson on pricing strategies though - cheap entrance and everything was a for-fee mini-event. So glad I only brought $50 in cash. Son was a bit disappointed though that we ran out of money.

I suspect you went pretty much only because of your son? Did he think it was ""mediocre product?"" Like Happy Meals, this event is aimed mostly at kids as economic buyer and parents as the comptroller. But I do agree with your assessment. The ""standardization"" of them has made them pretty cheesy compared to their start in early-70's N CA.

@PeterWolf I think the issue is you thought the prices were in Dollars when they were really in either Flourins or Silver. They might have taken 30 minutes with your wench in trade doth ye desire.

@DawnAnastasi - sorry I missed you! Were you in costume??? It was a very hot day - I felt bad for those people in the olde tyme garb. @MarkChinsky - I actually think they should come up with a better system when you come in. Much like street festivals, they should have you buy ""gold coins"" that you use. Then they could encourage an upsell and difficult to translate conversion so people question prices less at the time of purchase. $5 = 3 gold coins, $25 = 20 gold coins, $50 = 50 gold coins Something like that with rides being 1 - 3 gold coins.

Yes I was in costume - I was dressed as a peasant (with light cotton clothing). The best performance by far was Adam Crack, the fire whip guy.
