I have an perpetual end user whose maintenance is up for renewal on 3/6. The annual maintenance increased from $18,700 to $22,300. They are asking me for an explanation for such huge increase. I know Sage had a promotion allowing perpetual user to change to subscription with a maximum increase of 10%. However, my understanding is this promotion only applied to renewal dates between 4/1 and 9/30. This account would not be included in the promotion. A 20% increase each year is certainly a great incentive to look elsewhere for other software.

Think of March renewals as the hole in the Medicare prescription doughnut...

Sad situation. This has been a loyal customer for 20+ years. They always pay maintenance and have several third party add-ons. They were grandfathered in on the maintenance and were therefore subject to the five year ""catch-up"" price increase. Now this. I am going to be sorry to see them leave,

I wonder what would happen if you would ask Sage for leniency. Maybe they have the ""hole"" to test it out - how many people stop paying maintenance, vs how many people plead for a break to switch, vs how many people just pay it.

That's a good idea Beth. It is definitely worth inquiring.

You are familiar with their business needs? Then you could offer to guide their evaluation process for an alternative. As part of DSD, you have access to quite a bit of practical knowledge about alternatives. If you would like to explore this possibility, I am happy to outline it in a phone call some time.

Thanks Jerry. I will discuss it with them and let you know if they want to pursue other options.

At the least they should get some sample pricing for other options to compare to c-line pricing. (c-line pricing will the cheapest conversion for them, since no significant implementation costs.) It will result in a more realistic perspective on options. Nothing is cheap anymore.

This may be part of Sage's 3/1 announced 20% tax increase plan. You might explore C-Line migration and platform change to SQL or Advanced. I'm either platform changing or downsizing most of my C-Line. Just make sure to change only at the renewal date or Sage may (will) claw back commission.

Thanks Wayne. This customer is already on Premium. I am going to look at the 100c pricing. It may be less expensive.
