I have an orphan on 2016.5 Advanced - they are struggling with the shipping department and what they deem to be mis-counts. One issue that came up is a shipment went through with, for example, 10 ordered, 5 shipped and 0 backordered. The shippers were setup with rights to allow to change the backorder QTY which I consider a possible problem because in my testing a shipper could intentionally or unintentionally (mis-click, etc) set the backorder qty to 0 when they have edit rights to change the BO qty. When I change the shipper rights so they cannot change BO qty - which is what I think might solve their problem - it results in the shipping interface not showing any BO qty at all. I believe this is WAD since the user cannot change the BO. It would be better if the UI showed the QTY BO but grayed it out so the shipper could see it can't be changed. The shipping area panicked when they saw that the BO field was suddenly blank and, incorrectly I believe, presume that Sage was not back ordering any of the lines. Hopefully, someone has dealt with this issue previously. What they'd like to do is lock out the shipper from making any changes to that BO QTY but still be able to see the QTY that is automatically back ordered. I'd like to avoid custom programming or scripting if possible since this doesn't seem like that uncommon a request. I'm hoping that I am missing some combination that would lock out a shipper from changing the BO computation yet still allow them to view the computed BO.

Does the item they are shipping allow for backorders? It is one item or all items? Is it a kit item? Cooper Black Accounting Systems, Inc. 810 Dutch Square Blvd Ste 103 | Columbia, SC 29210 Ph: 803.252.6154 | Fx: 803.753.9818 Email: cblack@asifocus.com<mailto:bcooper@asifocus.com>

Yes, the item allows for backorders. Not a kit. I'm thinking this is largely a workflow issue coupled with a desire from the customer to have Sage monitor and catch every shipper mistake.

Wayne, I can't find the specific configuration field to know the exact name, yet it sounds like ship complete is enabled, this would make all of the backorder quantities by zero and close the Sales Order when the shipment is processed. Is that happening?

Perhaps it is more likely that the users are not being prompted for Backorder on Partial Shipment, which is a setting in Shipping Options.

It's only happening sporadically which makes me suspect some type of user error - maybe a mis-key. The problem with changing options has been that while I think the options change is correct it changes the user experience if suddenly they don't see the field they were used to having on screen. In this case when you remove the shipper option to change the BO QTY it also appears to blank that field out altogether rather than just gray it out but still keep it viewable. Apparently, shipping is used to seeing this qty to know how much more they have to package? I probably can set the field to read only but with 5 full-time shippers and some shipments having many boxes one small problem produces panic.
