I have an existing Sage 100 2017 Standard user who is asking for an inventory history report that gives qty sold by month across the top. Instead of following their fiscal year, they'd like to follow a user-defined period which won't change for the report. And this should be for two years. While I appreciate the natural beauty and sophistication of all tools - I'm specifically zeroing in on using Crystal Reports primarily because I have not proposed any added solutions. So for the purposes of this question, I am zeroing in on only Crystal as a tool even though I recognize there are half a dozen tools which may be a better option. Aside from grinding this out with 48 formulas and 48 if/then - I can't see an easy way to create this report. The canned inventory reports is fine until I try to pull some of one fiscal year onto one line and some onto another. The customer fiscal is October to September. They keep inventory history on a fiscal. The report should look like this: Prompt: What year to start? They only want net qty sold (no dollars) for each period Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Year 1 Year 2 Hopefully, I'm overlooking some ridiculously easy shortcut.

Cross tabs should be able to do that for you - want me to send you a report with a sample?

I was thinking cross tab as well.

Couldn't you modify the existing Inventory Sales History Report? Arrange the month columns to the desired order.

Some off the months have to be put into a different year than how they are in the file.

Yes, that's the tricky part. The user is on a fiscal year and their inventory is reported on fiscal. Yet they want the sales report on a slightly different reporting period than their fiscal (to match their busy season).

@DanBurleson has created reports for our clients with these types of needs.

Excel pivot tables backed with Power Query (Standard in Excel 2016 and a free download add-in for 2010 or 2013) provides drill down, interactive filtering and can be added to the ""My Tasks"" menu.
