I have an end user on Sage 100 Advanced - v4-4 - they are midway into a search for a ""budgeting"" package. Here's what I was able to get out of them. Does Sage have anything that recommendable which is budget specific (I asked several times whether they were looking to budget in Excel and their latest reply is most certainly no - that they're looking for a budgeting solution). Hi Wayne, We are not looking for a reporting package that has budgeting within, we are looking for one vendor who can provide all three; budgeting, reporting (with the potential for projections, forecasting, and benchmarking), and electronic distribution. We are aiming to get away from using Excel to budget. I.E. for payroll we want to be able to budget by employee based on hire date, budget raises by employee level (mgr/dir/staff) based on date of hire, with associated taxes & benefits, by month, with the ability to have notes saved and a log file that shows changes made. And when those changes are made, to be able to see the effects on our financials in real time. Does that help? For the expenses we would like to be able to assign various spreads to various subaccounts, again maintaining notes for changes made as well as the log file. For the reporting, since FRx is no longer supported, we are looking for something to replace that, as well as be able to distribute the reports electronically, with a security structure that suits our reporting tree. Within the reporting, we would like to have benchmarking/target/goal input capability along with forecasting & projection ability. We would also like to have the ability to drill down, similar to FRx. It sounds like a lot, but I have been in touch with a few vendors so far. And seeing that we currently have Sage, we should explore if they have anything to offer as well.

I recently had a customer with the same question. Just try to find something on Sage's web site about Budgeting and Planning! I finally found this feature sheet and Karen O'Callaghan sent me this link for a demo. http://go.na.sage.com/LP=2200?wid=w-22

I get the impression that these budgeting packages are not widely resold by VARS and that most who have some experience with them did more of a one-off install then never again.

I sold one when Sage Budgeting was Active Planner. The installation, setup and training was done by a Sage employee because the product is pretty complex.

There are a couple of consultants out there that specialize in this product. Had a quote from them for a client - sort of high, but it is complex.
