I have a payroll user Sage 100 ERP Standard - v2013 - asking if there's a way for employees to transfer some of their benefit into another employee. I'm guessing there is an employee who is sick who the other employees want to transfer hours to so that employee can continue to be paid. So far as I can tell the only way is either to manually make the transfer (move out of one employee and into the other) or to use VI. Anyone seen this or come up with a different method?

Wayne, may I assume that the two employee's involved have different pay rates? I talked with one of our team members who is a Certified Payroll Professional and he had a similar request a year or two ago with a Sage Abra customer. The customer ended up transferring hours between employees. Jim didn't know any of the background details but they processed two transactions, one to reduce the available hours for the donor and one to increase the hours for the recipient within the same attendance plan. I've asked one of our SHRM certified team members a couple questions regarding tax and legal ramifications and hope to have more info shortly.

This apparently would be multiple employees ""donating"" their hours to one employee.

Jim followed up on our previous conversation and has two customers who have done something similar in the past in Sage Abra. In both cases, the employer just transferred hours, regardless of pay rates. No taxes, no reporting. One customer stated they have had this happen a few times.

Last point from our resident SPHR: ""If you are talking just PTO or Sick time, yes that is legal to share with other employees as long as the specifications are laid out in a company procedure/policy. In my last company, we shared PTO and Sick time by the hour so we would just transfer out of one accrual balance to another. Of course we had a form, approval process, etc. for that. That would be the only benefit that it would be legal to share, but sharing of time off is common!
