I have a JobOps sales question: does anybody have experience with Global Shop? We have a good prospect who told us early that they'd ruled out Global Shop (but for a pricing reason, which didn't make a lot of sense), but now they're baaaack. I know they sell direct only, and their support seems to be all over the map. The prospect would use its native accounting, rather than linking to another system. I know its accounting module is limited, but I don't know in what way. The prospect has two operations. The starting division will be a machine shop with lowesh volume on items that take 1-2 days to turn. The larger division builds large machinery over months: 3000 m-hrs are common. I'd like to have some specific differentiating functionality. They've seen our demo's, but we structured them to get them to a Vision Development event ( @JohnShaver 's invention), and we didn't think an alternative job shop tool was still in the mix -- so we didn't yet lay the predicate about Sage 100's advanatages .

I have not run up against Global Shop with any prospects, although I am aware of what they have. Synergistic may have some knowledge of them. My impression has been that they fit well in smaller job shops. I question their ability to handle the larger division. Didn't they used to integrate to QuickBooks for accounting? Now they seem to have their own financial functions, but its doubtful they are as robust as Sage 100. Global Shop is a small family company, so customers have to consider that. I would do that comparison, because that's what I do. I don't believe most SMB sector companies put enough emphasis on the type and size of an organization that is supplying their ERP software. You can only have a competitive advantage rolling out the Sage financial and distribution functions and letting them compare to Global Shop. The Sage 100 basic financial and distribution functions have always diffentiated it for me. Those plus JobOps are a very strong combination.

And to counter my comment about Global Shop being a small family company, perhaps that's not all bad. Sage hardly ever emphasizes the basics with regard to Sage 100 - financials and distribution - and the intuitive nature of the package. They are more obsessed with Sage Intelligence, Fixed Assets, Inventory Advisor and CRM, which don't apply to many customers. And then there are the big three . . . Gold Plans, SPS and X3. And, no, when JobOps is involved, I hardly mention the above additions. Stick to the basics.

Thanks, John. You're telling me what I'd already pretty much concluded as next tactics. It just annoys me that I have to circle back around. I spent a little time with Mr. Google. Two sites in particular were interesting: Glassdoor and Spiceworks. Glassdoor indicates that the founder is no longer in line management, but lots of employees think they should get professional managers. although they think it's a good place to work. Spiceworks. wow. Seems you either love Global Shop or think it's junk and ridiculous. Couldn't figure out the difference. The data corruption and related issues were striking. But I suspect the key difference is in what you use it for, your IT environment and the fact they rely on GSS tech support. Anyway, thanks!

I have a client that actually bought the hype and were deep into implementation when the called me to re-instate MAS. Not in the office at the moment but will check to see their reason and let you know.
