I have a customer who wants to print thermal label

I have a customer who wants to print thermal labels as the product is shipped/invoiced. Ideally, they want the labels to auto print when printing the invoice. Not all items will need labels and some items will need a single label for the item, regardless of quantity (very small items packaged to order in a small bag) and some items will need a label per each. It think a flag in CI Item can define the label behavior. Anyone doing this now or have recommendations to accomplish? Thanks in advance!

Does it need to be during Invoicing, or can they print the label earlier and let it tag along? We're using labels with PO Receipts and BM Productions, but nothing on the sales side.

Scanforce's label printing routine e can be automated to look at a folder and it will print thermal labels based on the info. The trick is to populated the folder with the list of labels needed with the quantity.

@SteveIwanowski The items are not packaged for sale until right before shipping and they want the customer order number on the label. So, I think the label printing has to happen at time of order or invoice. Thanks for the response!

@JimWoodhead Hmm, sounds interesting. Do you think a script could fire for each invoice to populate the folder? Sounds like I ought to talk with ScanForce. Thanks for the feedback!

You could probably use scripting to handle everything, Steve Malmgren has a vbscript example floating around on sage city that can run a crystal report. I believe it could be adapted to print your custom label report to a designated printer. Alternatively, you could just use vbscript to write to the folder as @JimWoodhead suggested and have Scanforce pick it up.

Yep, ScanForce can totally work with that. Different file names for different printers too.

If you can export all the information that needs to be printed on the label to an Excel spreadsheet, the Label Matrix program from www.TekLynx.com could read the Excel spreadsheet and print text and barcodes on the labels. Label Matrix is not expensive.

@MichaelMcDonald - Am curious why you export to Excel first. I've used label Matrix for 10 plus years and I just create a LM label to pull directly from Sage via an Access PTQ. You can then put a short cut to the label directly on the Sage Launcher. Works well.

@JeffSchwenk - At one client (no longer in business) used MAS90 v4.x, I exported data to a csv file using Crystal Reports and then LM read the csv file to create Bar Code labels for incoming product on a MAS90 PO from overseas far east manufacturer. Current client uses an Excel spreadsheet to schedule production. Use a column in the spreadsheet to ""X"" each line of daily production. LM then reads the spreadsheet (like a database) and prints barcode labels for each line in the spreadsheet with an ""X"" in that column. Someday, I will learn Access PTQ commands because you keep ""preaching"" it. lol

I agree but the nice thing with the scanforce label print is the flat file initiates the label printing and the labels automatically print

@MichaelMcDonald Are you coming to Hotlanta for Sage Summit? If so, I will buy you a beer so we can discuss the merits of PTQ's and LM. Your receiving example is exactly how my clients use LM. Receive items in, print BC label from ROG tables, update ROG. 123 and done.

@JeffSchwenk - I do not have plans to attend SAGE Summit this year, but with a beer waiting for me, I might have to change those plans. Anytime you want to discuss using Label Matrix, I'm available. mike@mcdcpa.com; 616-813-8887.

I have no plans for Summit either. I will just ""happen"" to be there at that time meeting up with 90M'ers and a few clients! That is unless Delta has a system meltdown due to weather or I have the misfortune of being dragged off a United plane because THEIR inconvenience was worth only $800.

Yeah, I picked up my brother-in-law from GRR airport last night (Tuesday). Delta had him held hostage in Hotlanta from last Friday afternoon (4-days).
