I have a customer who has informed me that they want to add 4.4 BOM as they've been informed it will allow retaining sales and costing collection on Kit Items when they are exploded. I am still under the belief that this information will be retained on the components and not the parents. Did I miss something along the way?

Has that enhancement been absorbed into BOM? As I recall the process Wayne, when a parent Kit Item is exploded to it's components the Sales/Trransaction information is collected on the components not the Parent item. The client says that they've been told that the 4.4 BOM will allow collection of said information on the Parent (not sure if they meant in the children as well). I don't recall seeing this change, but I don't have a lot of clients using Kits...so...hence the query.

I remember this as being the opposite -- I had a client who bought the ES because when they exploded the kit that the sales tracking was only on the kit item itself. As best I remember (this was about 5 years ago) the tracking that my client wanted was to use the Inventory Master report which shows the sales by month. I do not think that report worked for BOM kits that were exploded and we had to get the ES in order to track sales quantity and dollars for component items. I'm not sure if this has been incorporated to 4.4. Usually what I do is check DSD's site and if they don't show the enhancement I figure that it must have been rolled in so I start checking the enhancement release info to see.

Haven't checked 4.40, BUT previously the sales were the components in IM9 (sales by warehouse) and were by the Kit item in IM_12(13?) Sales by Customer by Item. Which is weird, but there you go.

My memory is similar to Beth's -- it wasn't entirely consistent and the one report my client needed was only possible by counting components as if they were actual items sold (which is what the ES did).

Humm, will check the older version to validate where the postings go, but still not certain what changes, if any, in BOM in 4.4
