I have a customer that's having a weird problem. (I thought I posted it before but did a search and cannot find it.) Almost every morning they have someone that cannot access MAS 200. It does not believe the server is available. However, other users can access MAS 200 and if the user in question waits a few minutes, they can double-click on their icon and get in just fine. We have already checked anti-virus, firewall, renamed SY_Console/SY_Workstation, renamed the sessions.lck and locate.lck. This happens sometimes on XP workstations, sometimes on Windows 7. They are running MAS 200 version 4.30. Not sure if anyone has seen this before at one of their clients.

Might be name resolution. When the can't access MAS 200, can they ping the server by name?

Yes we have tried to have the user ping the server by name, not IP, and it works just fine. We tried running netstat -a on the server and the port is listening. It's very odd, especially since after a few minutes, they can double-click their MAS 200 icon and it works just fine.

On their work station does the INI file have the server name or the IP address?

I have seen this when the INI file on the work station had the server name instead of the server IP address.

The INI has the name of the server, not the IP address. So if they are having this issue, it could be some weird network issues where they are having DNS resolution errors?

I am going to have them change their shortcut and INI file and if there are no more issues I'll have them talk to their IT folks about checking out the network for DNS issues.
