I have a client upgrading from Sage 100 Version 3.71 to Version 4.5 The client has current year general ledger detail and prior year balances only. If i migrate the prior year balances will the migration routine create transactions from those balances and bring them into the new version. thanks!

It's my understanding that ALL data must be a transaction, and the summary is calculated from that.

So do they have a 15 year old server with only 2 GB of storage space? I am just amazed how some clients think......... GL information should be dialed to at least 7 years (IRS purposes) if not longer. I set my clients to at least 15. Back when V4x was first released, having these at different intervals was a big deal so I made sure that all clients were set that same.

This is a new client for me and i agree whoever set the GL options to retain 1 year of detail wasn't thinking. thanks!

Ron, I am sure you realize that I wasn't bitching AT you but WITH you about this topic. If the client truly wants the transactions from prior years, you can ask if they have backup from prior years that you might be able to import for them. A win win situation. They get their history, you get to make them happy!

Yes, i understood the intent of your comment and agreed with it. Unfortunately, the client hasn't kept prior year data.

If not back up is available, one thought would be to (reopen) the prior year, and post one entry for each account for each of teh 12 periods. this would enable them to report prior year financial data.

I'm glad to be done with those 3.x to 4.x GL migrations. Most were smooth but there were the occasional headaches with transactions and missing accounts. It was very difficult to explain why we were charging so much for basically administrative work to clean up the GL so it would migrate.
