@LarryBradford congratulations. We have some experience with SQL via Sage 500 and Sage 100 premium. With eRequester, we let Paperless Solutions manage most of their own work. Altec's team does a pretty good job as well. Both require some project management and resolution resources when conflicts. FAS is pretty straight forward. Not much different than installing the Sybase version.
Provisioning the SQL server is where you will get the biggest bang for the buck. If you server uses solid state drives, then a lot of the drive restrictions are null and void. If using SATA drives, then your responsiveness will improve exponentially by the number of spindles you employ and dedicate to different file types. Specifically, one set of drives for data files, another set for log file, and yet another for tempdb. All these are separate from the OS drives.
Disk access speeds are the number one bottle neck in a SQL environment followed closely by memory, though there is a point of diminishing returns on more memory.
