I have a client that generates more than 500 AR St

I have a client that generates more than 500 AR Statements at the end of the month. We recently implemented electronic delivery to save a few trees and lots of postage but now they're complaining about how long it takes to generate these PDF files. We are setting up CS ODBC printing anyway. Will this help speed up creating all of these PDF files?

It definitely helps. I just had the same issue so I set up PVX IO service (ODBC) and checked the box in user maintenance for the person that does billing and sends statements. Now, About once every 10 days or so this user can't print because the ProvideX IO service stops for some unknown reason. I have had this stopping issue at a couple of other clients and the only solution we could come up with is to create a batch file that stops and re-starts the service. The batch file gets executed at 3am by the windows server task scheduler. You could also put the batch file on the user's desktop.

I had the issue where the service would not start after a server reboot. Turned out that using the UNC path to install the service was the issue. Reinstalled the service using a mapped drive and all was well in CSODBC land.....

@JeffSchwenk you'd think we'd learn to use UNC paths by default, but no... It's just too easy to browse to the darn folder. I don't know how many times I've had to make this correction but enough to slap myself every time I discover what my forgetfulness/laziness did.

I am just the opposite. When setting up file paths, I instinctively use the UNC. IT departments are not very consistent with pathing so I start with the UNC. But the UNC path instinct bit me with the CS ODBC, go figure. I just reinstalled it for my v2015 installation (per the installation guide, it should be in the current version of Sage, not the previous one). The install guide even specified the UNC path so I am holding my breath that it starts up the next time the server is rebooted.

My 2 cents: 1) Very much unlike the App Server service, the CS ODBC Driver service, based on how it works it shouldn't need a UNC or mapped drive. I use the server's local drive path and use LocalSystem as the account. It works for me. 2) Turn on CS ODBC for just the users that need it not everyone. It has to do with next point. People who like to run the BI Explorer views would also be good candidates. 3) What @DougHiggs said is true to this day there is still some type of memory leak. The service doesn't stop so much as it hangs. I do the same thing - create a batch file to stop and start the service then schedule a Task Scheduler event to to run it early in the morning.

@AlnoorCassim thanks for the clarification. I'll institute changes along with batch file. PS. Your comments are always worth more than 2 cents!

@DougHiggs or @AlnoorCassim , can one of you post a sample batch file that stops/starts the service? I am not a techie and would like to see if this improves my CSODBC response time.

Wow, what a response. Thanks. Glad to see that I am not the ONLY one working today..... However, I am going to take a break soon so that I can work through the list of ""Honey Do's"" that have cascaded to a second page.....

Use notepad to create a file named csodbc.bat (or whatever xxx.bat) and put these 2 lines in it. Double click the file to execute, or let the windows task scheduler execute it.

I know what yo mean Jeff. I need to take the afternoon off so I can look for a birthday present for my wife. Currently researching good buys on snowblowers for next winter. Not sure if she needs a medium or commercial size.
