I have a client still running Sage 100 Version 3.71 that has not been open to upgrading. They want to know if they can move it to a Server 2008 R2 64 bit server. They are also running FRx. Has anyone done this? They will continue to use Windows XP workstations. They also want me to install V2013 on the new server so they can upgrade later. Is FRx possible with the new version of Sage 100? TIA

If you REALLY want the business, set up a virtual server on their new hardware and copy their old system over to it. Eliminates A LOT of headaches. I retired my old server (2003 SB) last January. I really didn't want the hassle of reinstalling everything. So we virtualized it in less than a day and I am back in business. I am slowly moving things over to the newer OS (v2013 runs very nicely there) but I left all my older versions of MAS in the virtual world. Love it.

Caveat - You may have issues with the print drivers (I did with my HP color) as HP doesn't have one for the 64 bit mother ship server. But as I recall, that was my only significant issue.

Thanks Jeff, I told this client's IT that we normally do this by virtualizing the old server on the new box and they wouldn't go for it. I told them I'm very reluctant to get involved with this move so they said they'd get back to me.

Trying not to do that but might have to.

Do they have any mods? I would argue you want new server clean with latest programs. Not old software that may cause conflicts with dlls etc

I told them that but they responded that they didn't thinking Version 3.71 put any dlls on the server?

Actually, it may work. I am moving a client from v3.71 to v2013. Their v3.71 is installed on a 2008 R2 Std 64 OS box. So I suppose if the workstation is not 64 OS, you could give it a whirl

Thanks Jeff. That's good to know. Do you know if FRx will work if run from an XP workstation with the data on the 2008R2 box?

Well if 3.71 runs, I would expect FRx to be able to pull the data. This client also has FRx STD (not the full Desktop version) and they were limping along with that also. Just tell the client there are no guarantees here.... And try to get your money up front....

Just checked and this client kept their Sysdata folder on a 32 OS workstation.

So it was not shared? That would probably work for this client as I doubt that more than one person is printing financial statements. thanks.

I doubt it. I was hoping to be able to use their FRx with v2013 but they had the ""lite"" version and had never upgraded to the full Desktop version. So they were watching an SI webinar today. They actually thought it was easy to use. Guess I need to install my version and start practicing.

My client has the version provided by Sage. Is that the ""lite"" version?

He/She who lasts touches the computer owns any resulting problems. Be sure there's a price for this service and in most cases with a customer still on 3.71 the reality is they won't want to pay.

The lite version was the original copy given with thee GL I believe it was called Standard. If you wanted to upgrade to the Desktop version, you paid but it gave you more options. Then Sage decided to include the Desktop with the General ledger module, raising the GL pricing to about 2K. Std users were given a window to upgrade at discount.

Thanks all. I've been forewarned. I set up a meeting with client and IT. I'll be careful and will quote high.
