I have a 4.3.23 client being moved to a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit server. The 4.3 SPM says it is not supported. They plan to upgrade MAS90 next year, but want replace server now. Is that still the case and they need to get a different Windows o/s?

I just installed a new WIN 2008 R2 64 server at my office. My be the last one before jumping to the cloud (or selling the biz for a boatload of money and retiring). I didn't want to go through the hassle of all that crap so we virtualized my old 2003 SBS on the new hardware. This spring when I find the time to migrate to 2013, I will install that directly on the Win 2008. But in the meantime, everything is on the new box running just like the old days. A very easy migration and I would highly recommend it for your client!
