I am trying to get our internal SMTP settings to work with Sage CRM 7.0 and Exchange 2010. I realize this isn't officially supported. However, I'm looking for some ways to allow us to email to some of our groups. I get a Socket Error 1104 when I try to use our current exchange server. Any suggestions?

It's been a long time since I worked in Exchange, but it seems to me that groups can have their own SMTP addresses, so you should be able to set up groupname@mycompany.com and thus email to the group. Or are you trying to do something different?

@JohnWilder - you can email to groups from Sage CRM with out of the box behavior. If you click a particular group under My CRM > Groups, one of the options is Email. Do you mean ""groups"" or ""team"" (as defined by Sage CRM)? If you want to email ""Teams"" - groups of users - than I recommend considering an alternative approach. Create your company (or your client's company - whoever this is for) as a CRM Company record and add all people under it. You can then create a static list with different people records from that company - or a dynamic list of all people in that company. From there, you can email as I described above in the first paragraph.

Ah... I just figured it out... you are talking about the fact that Sage CRM 7.0 doesn't support Exchange 2010. Instead of creating a complex workaround, why not upgrade to 7.1 which (I believe - don't have the matrix handy) does support Exchange 2010?

@PeterWolf I'd love to upgrade. However, our intergration with MAS 200 will put this off till early next year. As 7.10 will intergrate wtih 4.50 not our current 4.40 install. There are some 'issues' on that end, besides we have a MAS plug-in that will not be availble until Feb of 2012. I'm not looking for complex anyway, I can work up some export/import stuff to tread water. I was just hoping there may be an SMTP 'work around' in the meantime.
