I am happy to share the news that today in the mail I received notice dated April 22, 2014 that 90 Minds Inc is officially tax exempt under 501(c)6 (Trade or Business Organization). While I'm not pretending to provide CPA/Legal advice my experience is that this just means that we don't pay tax to the IRS or state for dues and other revenues. It does NOT exempt us from sales or other normal taxes. https://www.evernote.com/shard/s1/sh/f921fe2b-4ded-41ad-9ee2-5b1476d4489e/a6c09ac86290ebdbe24c848d9c49c9a9

This looks like an older summary but contains some good examples of 501(c)6 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-tege/eotopick03.pdf

It is interesting how there really are ""two americas"". I'm at the Epicor conference which is extremely biased towards manufacturers and the majority of them are in ""Red"" states. I guess that's why they are having President Bush give tomorrow mornings keynote :) . Sat down with a new client who has worked with one of my consultants for years. He's from Texas and once I told him I was from NJ and he heard my NE accent, he was treating me like a Birkenstock wearing kid at a Occupy Wall Street rally. I promise I said nothing about politics as I'm smart enough to know to never talk about politics with customers unless they bring it up and I'm of the same persuasion. It took me a good 10 minutes for him to understand that A) I'm not liberal, and B) Not everybody from NJ (or California, or Massachusetts etc) is. Is interesting how much of our manufacturing economy is in Red states and service economy is in Blue states

Only TWO Americas??? Why did it take so long for him to understand? I thought you had trigger words that served as secret passwords of understanding.

Mark. Really. Bush is the keynote ..... Sage has Karl Rove. Hmmm. So who gets the bigger speaker fees?

@JimWoodhead - well Sage has six speakers. All well past their prime, mostly irrelevant and of interest mainly to those who browse the ""whose available for what fee"" corporate speaker book. The musical guest is even more of a head scratcher.

It doesn't make sense until you realize that they are trying to target the younger, millennial entrepreneurial type.

I think they are targeting people who spend $99 on early registration for Las Vegas conferences. There's been scant announcement prior to key deadlines of any attractions so I find it difficult to think the speakers were picked to drive attendance. What drove attendance was $99 early registration and resort destination. It's going to be like offering a Groupon for $10 to attend a resort conference. What you'll get won't necessarily be ERP decision makers but people who like bargain trips.

I didn't say they were doing a good job of it.

My client suggestion was to go ahead and spend it and if you decided not to go, it was only $99 down the toilet. If you decided to go later, it is $700(?) down the toilet.... In either case, it money down the toilet.

Epicor has 4500 attendees and they don't have MASs market products like Peachtree and charge about $1,300 per attendee for attendance. Much smaller vendor exhibit (half are Epicor employees and solutions). They claim it's biggest show ever. Laughing, my also conservative partners are going to the Microsoft conference who has a keynote from Arianna Huffington The music entertainment is Sheryl Crow. Definitely not a has been
